The Coastal Plain Rural Health Network membership consists of eleven community leaders representing the counties of Clarendon, Williamsburg, Marion and Lower Florence. The membership is diverse and represents public health, community hospitals, federally funded community health centers and the educational system.

The Coastal Plain Rural Health Network was formed and is still supported by funding from the South Carolina Office of Rural Health (SCORH). Our Network has been organized for two years and recently received our 501 (c) 3 determination. Members of the Network are an energetic, knowledgeable group who has the ability to ensure steady growth of the Coastal Plain Rural Health Region.

A commitment has been made to identify healthcare issues that would greatly benefit the citizens within the four county region. Members have pledged their time, talent and financial resources to make a noticeable difference within their service area.

The Network is on the move!  Some of our accomplishments:

  • Smoke-Free Initiative - A joint smoke-free effort between Black River Healthcare, Marion Medical Center, Williamsburg Regional Hospital and Clarendon Health System – All properties went smoke free in 2008.
  • Putting Prevention into Practice Program - A prevention program that encompasses 4 counties and 14 hospital owned physician practices. Our goal is to make prevention screenings and tests part of the physician office routine, with the goal being early detection if there is a health issue. The target population for this program is women over the age of 40 and men over the age of 50. Funding has been provided by the Duke Endowment for a period of three years.
  • Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) Cancer Grant - A great opportunity to provide screenings for cancers of the breast, prostate, colon and cervix. 2006-2008.
Latina Perinatal Program - A program for non-English speaking Latino women throughout the Network who need assistance with translation as it pertains to their prenatal care.
