The
Cypress Foundation Board of Directors is a diverse group of accomplished
individuals who, like all of us at Clarendon Health System, are dedicated
to the health and wellness needs of the community. Please take a
moment to get to know each of them.

Cleve
Dowell, Chariman
Cleve Dowell is co-owner and editor and publisher of the Clarendon Citizen newspaper. He and his wife, Carol, have two sons and have lived in Manning since April 1999. In addition to serving as the Vice Chairman of The Cypress Foundation, Mr. Dowell is a past president of the Manning and Summerton Rotary Clubs, a past president of Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Clarendon County United Way, currently serves as secretary/treasurer of the Summerton Rotary Club, president of Clarendon County Habitat for Humanity, chairman of the Striped Bass Festival, and serves on the Central Carolina Technical College Foundation Board.
Originally
from Carlisle, Ark., Mr. Dowell is a graduate of Auburn University.
He enjoys traveling, golf, the outdoors and time with
friends and family, especially his granddaughter. |

Watson
Louis Griffith, Vice-Chairman
Louis
Griffith is the executive vice president and chief financial
officer of the Bank of Clarendon. He and his wife, Dawn, have four
children.
Mr. Griffith is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, the School of Banking in the South and the School of Investments and Management. He has served as president of the Clarendon Habitat for Humanity and secretary/treasurer of the Manning Rotary Club, and is the president of the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Griffith and his family attend Manning United Methodist Church. He enjoys playing golf and hiking. |

Betty
Brockman, Ph.D., Secretary
Dr.
Betty Brockman is a retired psychologist. She and husband, Robert,
live in Deer Creek, having moved here from Ohio. Dr. Brockman
was in private practice in Ohio. She has extensive experience writing
and directing grant projects.
The
Brockmans attend Manning Presbyterian Church. Dr. Brockman currently
serves as a member of the ARB board, ADTT Alumni, and Cypress
Foundation Planned Giving Committee. She is past president of
the Wyboo Plantation Board. She enjoys travel, bridge, golf, reading
and her
13 grandchildren. |

Lamar Kennedy, Treasurer
Lamar Kennedy is a lifelong resident of Clarendon County. He and his wife, Cathy, have two sons. He is the owner of Manning IGA and is a member of Manning United Methodist Church, president of the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Striped Bass Festival, and a member of the Manning Rotary Club. His interests include cooking, hunting, fishing and spending time with Cathy and the boys. |

Scott
Brown, D.C., Immediate Past Chairman
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Scott Brown, wife Blanche and their two children have lived in Clarendon County since 1993. He is the owner/chiropractor of Clarendon Chiropractic. A graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, he completed his pre-med requirements at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University. Later, he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic from Life University in Atlanta.
Dr. Brown is the past chairman of the Board at Clarendon County Behavioral Health Services, past president of the Manning Rotary Club, chairman of the Central Carolina Technical College Foundation, past president of the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Clarendon Striped Bass Festival and vice-chairman of the Cypress Foundation. His interests include the outdoors, but his real passion is his family, his patients and this community and its potential for growth. |

Beryl
Bachus-Keith, M.D.
Dr.
Beryl Bachus-Keith is a board certified pediatrician and an honor
graduate of Tulane University School of Medicine. She is the chief
medical officer at Black River Healthcare, which serves residents
of Clarendon, Williamsburg and Florence counties. She also is a former
chief of staff at Clarendon Memorial Hospital.
Dr.
Bachus-Keith is active in the community and currently serves on the
NBSC-Manning Board of Directors and is the 2005 board chair.
She also is a Smiles for a Lifetime advisory board member, former
Habitat for Humanity board member, former First Steps board member,
and recipient
of the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control
2004 Physician of the Year award and the S.C. Rural Health Association
2002 Rural
Practitioner of the Year award. |

James C. Black
James Black and his wife Nell make their home in Clarendon County and have two grown sons. He is a graduate of Pinewood High and GM Schools and has been an auto dealer for 51 years. In addition to owning his own business in Manning, Santee Leasing, he also owns Longstreet Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC.
Mr. Black is a Manning Rotary member and is a member of the NBSC Advisory Board. He is also associated with the Mid-Carolina Comm. for Higher Education and is a member of Manning United Methodist Church. |

Betty
King Coffey
Betty
Coffey has had a long relationship with Clarendon Health System.
She served as the director of Community Development from 1993-1996
and worked at Clarendon Memorial Hospital as a registered nurse.
She and her husband, Billy, reside in Manning, and have three adult
children.
Betty is a member of Manning United Methodist Church, serves on the District and State DHEC Home Health Advisory Committee, volunteers with Meals on Wheels and is currently the Chairman of the Cypress Foundation Recognition Committee.
She enjoys spending time with her family, gardening and reading and has a real passion for promoting Clarendon Memorial Hospital and the positive impact it makes in our community. |

Shirley
C. Cogdill
Shirley
Cogdill and her husband, Leonard, have lived in the Panola community
for more than 40 years. Mrs. Cogdill is president of L&S Farms,
which her family has farmed for 35 years. Mrs. Cogdill owned and
operated Cogdill Catering for more than 30 years and will always
be known for her chicken salad and cheese wafers! Mrs. Cogdill now
owns Cogdill’s on Main dress and specialty shop in Summerton.
Mrs.
Cogdill is a member of Summerton Baptist Church and serves on the
Social Committee. She is also a member of The Cypress Foundation
Recognition Committee. She has three children and five grandchildren,
and enjoys attending the many weekend motocross races that
take the family to multiple states across the Southeast. Her hobbies
include
reading, cooking and gardening. |

J.D. Duke
J.D. Duke and his wife, Kathy, have lived in Manning for the past 20 years. He has been employed in hospital materials management for 34 years. The last 17 years has been with Clarendon Health System. J.D. served as President of the South Carolina Society of Hospital Material Managers from 1997-98. The Duke’s have two children.
J.D. and his family are members of Clarendon Baptist Church in Alcolu, SC. His hobbies are Carolina Gamecock football games, golf and NASCAR racing.

Elaine
Elmore
Elaine
Elmore has lived in the Goat Island area
of Summerton for 23 years. She has been in banking for 13 years,
beginning as a teller with NBSC in Summerton to her current position
as a bank officer with First Citizens Bank and Trust Company. The
Elmore ’s have three adult children.
Mrs.
Elmore is a member of the Summerton Presbyterian Church. Her hobbies
include traveling, singing, and playing with her grandchildren. |

Edward
R. Frye. Jr.
A
visionary and champion of rural health systems, Ed Frye has been
chief executive officer of Clarendon Health System since 1989. He
is married to Nannette, and they have two children and three grandchildren.
Mr. Frye is board chairman of Shared Services Healthcare and over
the course of his 30-year career, has served on the South Carolina
Hospital Association (SCHA) board of trustees, Geriatric Best Practices
board of directors, South Carolina Health Resources board of directors
and the Bank of Clarendon advisory board.
Mr.
Frye has received numerous awards for community service. In 2004,
he was selected by the U.S. government to participate in the
National Security Seminar at the Army War College. He was honored
as the Clarendon County Business Professional of the Year in 2001
and
received the SCHA Community Service Award in 1999. Mr. Frye
is also involved in numerous community projects and speaks regularly
to national,
state and local organizations on the vital role of rural hospitals
in promoting economic wellbeing and public health in small
and rural communities. Mr. Frye enjoys collecting art and antiques,
traveling and
spending time with family and friends. |

Margaret
D. Jackson
Margaret Jackson and her husband, Carl, are lifelong residents of
Clarendon County. They have two adult children. Mrs. Jackson served
as Clarendon County treasurer for 23 years and worked as a school teacher
in the public school system.
Mrs. Jackson is the former president of the Manning Rotary Club, past chairman of the Historical Society, served as chairman of the Clarendon County Sesquicentennial Committee, Elder Circle Leader of Manning Presbyterian Church and a member and former president of Friends of the Library. She currently serves as the immediate past chairman for The Cypress Foundation. She enjoys playing bridge, reading, gardening and cooking, but her real passion is her grandchildren. |

L. Travis
McIntosh
Travis McIntosh received his BS degree in accounting with an emphasis in finance and management from the College of Charleston. Travis is Financial Consultant with Scott & Stringfellow, Inc., a BB&T Corporation affiliate. In addition to holding his NASD series 7, 9, 10, and 66 licenses and South Carolina insurance license in Health, Accident, & Life, Travis is an Accredited Asset Management Specialist.
Travis graduated from Clarendon Hall in Summerton. He is actively involved as a charter board member of the Cypress Foundation of Clarendon Health System where he serves on the Finance and Planned Giving Committees, Sumter Rotary Club, and Clarendon Hall Alumni Association. Travis is a lifelong resident of the Pinewood Community. He and his wife Cyndi have three sons, Cortland, Dawson, and Walker. They are active members of Pinewood Baptist Church.
Travis enjoys spending time with his family and friends along with hunting, golfing, fishing, and playing the piano. |

Pat McNeil
Pat McNeil is a retired Special Ed teacher serving 29 years at the Marysville Exempted Village Schools. She graduated with a BS at Wright State, Dayton, Ohio with an undergraduate from Michigan State.
She and her husband, Joe, are residents of Clarendon County where she is a member of P.E.O. and Presbyterian Women Church Circle. She enjoys golf, biking and sewing. |

Beatrice Rivers
Born in Summerton, SC, Beatrice Rivers graduated from Scott’s Branch High School, Summerton, SC and the University of the District of Columbia, Washington, DC. She spent 32 years with the Federal Government in Washington, DC during which time, she worked for three agencies, the Department of Labor, the Department of Commerce and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The positions held were secretary, equal opportunity specialist, special assistant to a presidential appointee and Chief of state and Local Programs. She is a Certified Grant Specialist, Volunteer tutor-reading and math, member Kappa Delta Pi, an international Honor Society in Education, member Board of Directors, South Carolina Voter Education Project.
